A little more information came to light during Wes Welker's radio tour.
When Tom Brady restructured his deal to create a considerable amount of cap space for the Patriots, it was widely believed he made the move so that New England could re-sign Wes Welker.
Obviously that didn’t happen, as Welker is now a member of the Denver Broncos, and the wide receiver said during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show that Brady doesn’t have enough juice to influence personnel decisions.
“I don’t think Tom makes decisions like that,” Welker said. “Actually, I know he doesn’t. He wants what’s best for the team, and he knows his coach does that. It just didn’t work out. That’s kind of the way it goes.”
Welker later noted that both he and Brady were upset that things didn’t work out. On another radio appearance on SiriusXM, he said that his departure from New England could be a source of motivation moving forward.
“It’s still April right now, but any motivation I can put out there to win, I’m going to pull from it and definitely do that,” he said.
Welker was also asked about Brady’s contract during his appearance on SiriusXM, where it was noted that there are several quarterbacks making more money than Brady.
Not one to let an opportunity to crack on his buddy pass, Welker full advantage.
“Having a sugar mama helps,” he joked.
