Red Sox hold moment of silence for slain, wounded law officers

BOSTON — Red Sox fans have honored a fallen police chief and law enforcement officers wounded in two separate shootings.

Fans held a moment of silence Friday before the start of the game against Tampa Bay, the first game of the season at Fenway.

Greenland, N.H., Police Chief Michael Maloney was killed and four officers from other departments were injured during a standoff Thursday. The officers were part of a state drug task force and had been trying to serve a search warrant. A man suspected in the shootings was found dead early Friday.

In a separate confrontation, a Massachusetts state trooper was shot Friday after responding to a report of gunshots in a home in Chicopee. The suspect in that shooting was found dead inside the home.
