Joel Hanrahan may be one rehab outing away from rejoining the Red Sox.
Boston Red Sox reliever Craig Breslow is nearing a return after shoulder problems. BOSTON - Craig Breslow's rehab appearance for Pawtucket Sunday will not necessarily be his last before joining the Boston Red Sox.
Joel Hanrahan will also pitch for the Pawsox Sunday. Hanrahan will likely rejoin the Red Sox in Toronto if all goes well physically with his healing right hamstring.
Breslow had had shoulder problems all spring. His return date is nearing, but not as clear.
"Joel had a full spring training. Craig has not. I think you have to look at the entire 2013 situation,'' Red Sox manager John Farrell said.
Breslow pitched an inning Saturday for Pawtucket. Going back-to-back is an important test for the left-handed reliever, who signed a two-year contract in the offseason.
He did not pitch in spring training. The Red Sox have been going with Andrew Miller as their only lefty in the bullpen, and Franklin Morales' ongoing back problems mean that won't change until Breslow returns.
