The final roster has taken shape over the last 24 hours.
FORT MYERS, Fla. - On the penultimate day of spring training, Mike Carp said he has been told he made the Red Sox 25-man Opening Day roster.
Jackie Bradley Jr. said no one has told him. That word is expected Friday.
"It's a great feeling,'' said Carp, a first baseman who can also play left field.
"I knew I was in a good spot, but until the final decision, you don't know
Carp was designated for assignment by Seattle at the start of spring training. The Red Sox picked him up after camp had been underway for more than a week.
Carp was chosen over Lyle Overbay, a first baseman who was cut Tuesday and subsequently signed by the New York Yankees.
When outfielder Ryan Sweeney was told Thursday his option would not be picked up, the final two spots were clear: Carp and Bradley.
Bradley said Friday he has still not heard. "I'm just glad to be here for now,'' he said.
