The White Sox bullpen coach is the second known candidate in the search,

john farrell.jpgNew Red Sox new manager John Farrell, a former pitching coach, will consider Juan Nieves for the job in Boston.

The Boston Red Sox will look at Juan Nieves in connection with its job as pitching coach, according to several media sources.

Nieves is the Chicago White Sox bullpen coach. He joins Rick Peterson, the Baltimore Orioles' director of pitching development, as the only known candidates who will interview for the job.

Manager John Farrell has been spending the past several days assembling his staff. Third base coach Brian Butterfield and bench coach Torey Lovullo have come over from Farrell's Toronto staff.

Nieves, 47, pitched the first no-hitter in Milwaukee Brewers history in 1987. It was the second season of what was shaping up as a very promising career, but shoulder problems ended his career in 1988.

Nieves' no-hitter made him one of the youngest pitchers ever to throw one, and the first Puerto Rican native to do it.

Niever attended Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut, He has worked in the White Sox organization for the past 14 years,
