The Boston Red Sox lost a legend Monday.
Johnny Pesky passed away Monday at age 92, according to Steve Buckley of the Boston Herald.
The namesake for the right field foul pole in Fenway Park, Pesky played eight seasons with the Red Sox, batting .313 with 13 home runs and 361 RBI. He also served in various other capacities within the organization, including several years as a bench coach and several more as a radio analyst.
The Red Sox officially named the right field foul pole "Pesky's Pole" in 2006. Two years later, the team retired Pesky's number.
Whenever anyone was being honored at Fenway Park, Pesky was normally involved in the festivities. When Trot Nixon's career was celebrated in May, Pesky joined him on the field for the ceremonies.
"It was great to see Pesky," Nixon told MLB.com. "When you think of Fenway you think of Pesky's Pole and Ted Williams and all these guys. It meant a lot to me that he was able to be there."
