Western Massachusetts had one athlete bring home a bronze medal, Saturday at the New England Track & Field Championship at
Chicopee Comp’s Alex Niemiec was the big winner of the day, placing third in the high jump with a height of 6-07. He added an inch to his second place state championship height and three inches to his height at the Western Mass championships.
Longmeadow’s Camille Blackman earned a fourth place finish in the two mile run, finishing in 11:04.51 and Mahar’s Sabrina Silva grabbed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 40-02.75.
Belchertown’s Madison Granger, the states’ reigning one mile champion, finished fifth in
Westfield’s Jaun Maysonete, who was crowned the state champion in the 110 hurdles last week, placed seventh in New England in the event, finishing in 14.94. He was ranked third in the preliminaries.

Other notable finishers were Mount Greylock’s Jenna Phelps with 10th in the 300 hurdles (46.25), Mohawk’s Lauren Avery with 11th in the triple jump (35-10), Northampton’s Alex Sullivan with 14th in the 800 meter (2:00.66), Wahconah’s Marisa Sprague who finished 12th in the triple jump (35-07) and 16th in the long jump (16-03.25) and Holyoke’s Rachel Brochu with a 26th place finish in the shot put (33-03.50).
