Patrick came under some criticism when 38 Studios was later lured to Rhode Island with a $75 million loan guarantee
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick said Massachusetts declined to offer state help to former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company before it bolted for Rhode Island because his administration decided it was not a good investment.
Patrick, during his monthly "Ask the Governor" program on WTKK-FM, said he spoke personally to Schilling about his 38 Studios in 2010 and later asked aides to analyze Schilling's proposal. But Patrick said "they couldn't make the numbers work for us."
Patrick came under some criticism when 38 Studios was later lured to Rhode Island with a $75 million loan guarantee from that state's Economic Development Corp.
The troubled company's entire workforce was laid off last week.
Patrick said he felt no ill will toward the firm and was sorry to hear about the loss of jobs.
