Edelman has not worked out with the defense during organized team activities.
FOXBOROUGH – There wasn’t much Julian Edelman didn’t do for the New England Patriots last season.
He played wide receiver, lined up at defensive back, and also played a prominent role as a returner on special teams. But, at least at this juncture, it appears that Edelman can scratch defensive back off his list of responsibilities.
Edelman revealed that he has not sat in on a defensive meeting this spring or practiced with the defense during the first two weeks of organized team activities, though he would not say if he’s had a conversation with coach Bill Belichick about what his role will be next season.
“You’d have to ask Coach on that,” Edelman said. “All I can do is just worry on trying to learn the receiver position and whatever they want me to do on any other phase of the game.”
Edelman is one of 11 receivers who are vying for a roster spot. Anthony Gonzalez, also a slot receiver, was released last week.
