Crawford has not played this year due to off-season wrist surgery.
Boston Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford will visit Dr. James Andrews to have his sore left elbow examined, according to CSNNE.com.
Crawford had wrist surgery in January and began to experience elbow discomfort during his rehab. He began the season on the disabled list and appeared close to beginning a minor league rehab assignment before the elbow problems re-emerged.
Manager Bobby Valentine confirmed to The Boston Globe that Crawford would get another opinion on his elbow, but he added that he doesn’t believe the injury is major. Crawford originally was projected to return in early May, though that timetable undoubtedly will be pushed back.
In the first season of a seven-year, $142 million contract, Crawford hit just .255 with 11 homers, 56 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and a .289 on-base percentage in 2011.
The Red Sox also are without center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) indefinitely, and that prompted them to trade for center fielder Marlon Byrd this past weekend.
