A Capitals fan blog is encouraging fans to print out and bring with them paper cutouts of President Obama.
Yes, we're all sick of hearing about it, but Washington Capitals fans will do or use anything at this point to help give their team an edge in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series against the Boston Bruins.
According to the D.C. Sports Blog on The Washington Post's website, Capitals fans are planning on wearing Barack Obama masks to taunt Bruins netminder Tim Thomas during pregame warmups and throughout the night for Game 3 Monday at the Verizon Center.
The idea was sparked by a Capitals fan blog, The Russian Machine Never Breaks in response of Thomas' no-show appearance for the team's White House visit back in January.
The cutout features President Obama's famous Hope poster on the left and on the right a cutout of his face with eye holes.
Clearly this is something that will never be dropped as questions have resurfaced throughout the season, in which Thomas has warned he'd end interviews if brought up.
Bruins backup goalie Tuukka Rask came to the defense of Thomas and responded to the taunt scheme.
“They’re going to be angry at him? I think everybody is angry at him because he’s so good. You guys know him almost as well as I do. He doesn’t give a shoot about that stuff,” Rask said. “It doesn’t bother him at all."
Do Capitals fans really think that the taunting will throw Thomas off his game?
He's been just as solid of Capitals rookie Braden Holtby as he's tied with him for a playoff-best .083 goal-against average and is third with a .964 save percentage.
If anything, Thomas will just get a big laugh out of it and even more if the Bruins come out on top in the end.
