The former AD at University of Buffalo replaces Jeff Hathaway, who retired in August.
STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut officials will be introducing Warde Manuel as the school's new athletic director.
A news conference is scheduled for Monday morning at The Burton Family Football Complex on the Storrs campus. Officials announced Manuel's hiring Sunday.
Manuel has been the athletic director at the University of Buffalo for the past six years. He succeeds Jeff Hathaway, who retired in August amid problems with the men's basketball team including NCAA sanctions and declining academic scores.
UConn officials say Manuel will sign a five-year contract with a base salary of $450,000. He's also eligible for a $100,000 performance incentive if certain goals are met and another $100,000 in deferred compensation after five years.
The 43-year-old New Orleans native attended the University of Michigan, where he played football and ran track.
