Whatever his name, his career in New England appears to be over after a disappointing season.
New England Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is changing his name back to Johnson.
TMZ reported "the Patriots star is telling friends, he plans to change his last name BACK to Johnson in time for his wedding this summer - because he doesn't want his wife to have a made-up last name."
Ochocinco is marrying "Basketball Wives" fiancee Evelyn Lozada in July.
Ochocinco confirmed the news on his Twitter account, which has 3.2 million followers. He also joked that, "There's a warrant out for OchoCinco so I'm changing it to avoid jail time."
He first mentioned the name switch late last month on ESPN's "NFL Live" show.
Ochocinco first began referring to himself in Spanish for his uniform number - 85 - in 2006 while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. He changed it officially in 2008 so he could wear it on his uniform.
Ochocinco signed with the Patriots prior to the 2011 season, but put up very disappointing numbers - 15 catches for 276 yards - and is due to make $3 million in 2012. That has led to widespread speculation that New England will drop him from the roster.
He had one catch in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants.
