Rajon Rondo, Josh Smith and Rudy Gay walk into a bar ... Stop me if you've heard this one before.
You’ve no doubt heard by now about the incident involving a man allegedly taking a swing at Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo over the weekend at a nightclub in Lowell.
The most shocking thing isn’t that the alleged assailant didn’t know who Rondo was, nor that the club’s co-owner found Rondo to be "unpersonable" and "disrespectful toward patrons" (let’s face it, he plays a pretty chippy game and reports of him butting heads with teammates are not infrequent).
No, those things can be believed, even if it requires a little strain from wearers of green-colored glasses.
But Rondo, Josh Smith and Rudy Gay walk into a bar … in Lowell?
It makes for a great start to a joke, but the punchline's a stunner. Pun intended I guess.
Just goes to show you that with a lockout in place, players have to collect those appearance fees wherever they can get them.
Rondo wasn’t the only Celtic involved in a fracas recently, as resident Celtics chest thumper Kevin Garnett got into a little pickup dustup with Wizards world-beater Jordan Crawford.
No word on whether the two have since made up and are planning a bar crawl in Chicopee.
But it’s not all bad news with the Celtics these days, as Rondo and his clubbing buddies took part in the Rondo-hosted Boston Charity Classic at Harvard University Saturday. That gave the media a chance to talk to Celtics captain Paul Pierce about his role in the players’ failed negotiations with owners.
As for the charity game itself, if you enjoy the type of AND1 nonsense that passes for basketball in these types of events, here is what you missed:
