News reports have linked the star pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals.

If the Red Sox were hoping to sign Roy Oswalt with the money the team saved by trading Marco Scutaro, Boston may need to keep looking. According to several news reports, the St. Louis Cardinals are close to signing a deal with Oswalt.

The Cardinals have reportedly denied there's a deal in place with Oswalt. But the news reports keep coming in from sources ranging from ESPN to Sports Illustrated.

Earlier this month, Oswalt reportedly turned down a one year, $10 million deal to pitch for the Detroit Tigers.

The veteran player pitched last season for the Philadelphia Phillies, who declined an option on his contract, making him a free agent. The 34-year-old right hand starter struggled with back problems last year and finished the year with a 9-10 record and 3.69 ERA.
