Miami had Boyce on the phone right before the Pats picked him.
Josh Boyce thought his future was going to contain beaches full of white sand and a lot of Ryan Tannehill. Instead, he gets a strip mall and Tom Brady. He couldn’t be happier over how things turned out, but the first option didn’t sound so bad when the Miami Dolphins called to tell him that he’d be the 104th pick in the draft. But things changed before he could celebrate the news.
“As soon as I got off the phone the Patriots called me,” the former TCU quarterback told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “You never know. I’m just glad God gave me the opportunity to get drafted.”
Boyce was at his family home in Copperas Cove, Texas, where he played high school football with Robert Griffin III, when the calls came in. He later played with Andy Dalton at TCU.
When speaking with reporters following the draft, Boyce acknowledged how blessed he’s been to play with such a distinguished group of quarterback throughout his career. But his numbers suffered last year as TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, a redshirt freshman, fought through some inconsistencies.
As a sophomore, Boyce caught 61 passes for 998 yards with nine touchdowns. In his junior season, he caught 66 passes for 891 yards. After that season, he announced he was leaving after earning his degree in sociology.
