"Mm-hmm," Brian Scott said. "A little high on it, but he got it."

What is this, seventh grade?

While it's commonplace for NASCAR drivers and teams to engage in some pit-road scuffling following on-track incidents, I've never seen anything like what is alleged to have happened after Friday's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

Brian Scott expressed displeasure with the way Nelson Piquet Jr. raced him while the duo battled for spots in the top 15. Piquet responded with a move he may have learned from his father, former Formula 1 driver Nelson Piquet Sr.

Piquet kicked Scott in the groin.

Let that sink in for a moment. Take a minute to watch the video. The blow isn't clear, but you can see the reaction.

"Mm-hmm," Scott said. "A little high on it, but he got it."

“The intention wasn’t to do that,” Piquet said. “It was just to keep him away from me because I didn’t want to start a fight. It wasn’t meant to hit him where it ended up.”

Ummm ... yeah. That's it.

A little later on, in the motorhome lot, the Piquet and Scott crews apparently went at it, leading to the arrest of two of Scott's Richard Childress Racing crew members - Michael Scearce and Thomas Costello.

Henrico (Va.) Police said in a statement:

"Henrico Police are investigating a verbal argument that started in the infield area of RIR that escalated into a physical altercation near the Driver/Owner Lot. The assault occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. Two adult males are in custody as a result of the ongoing investigation. One of the two adult male victims has a shoulder injury.''

Richard Childress Racing responded with its own statement:

“We are aware an incident took place outside of the track's infield following Friday night's NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway involving members of our team; and others from another team. We are cooperating with the local authorities in this matter.”

Crazy, indeed.
