There was some brief discussion after Rajon Rondo's injury that perhaps Dooling would rejoin the Celtics in a playing capacity, but nothing ever happened.
Former Boston Celtics guard Keyon Dooling could be signing with the Grizzlies soon, ending a brief stint away from the court that began over the summer.
Peter Vecsey reported Dooling has already signed with Memphis. The organization denied that, according to Chris Vernon of Memphis' ESPN radio affiliate, but has been talking to the guard and could still sign him this week.
Dooling re-signed with Boston on a one-year deal in July, but reached a buyout later in the summer after a self-described mental "meltdown" took away his desire to play. The 32-year old remained with Boston by accepting a front-office position, but hasn't played at all.
There was some brief discussion after Rajon Rondo's injury that perhaps Dooling would rejoin the Celtics in a playing capacity. He even said he would "definitely" consider a comeback if president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said the word, but nothing ever happened.
According to coach Doc Rivers, that wasn't for lack of interest:
Doc on Keyon Dooling signing with Memphis; “We wanted to (sign him) but couldn’t because of the buyout. He would have been with us."
