CLEARWATER, Fla. - The unfolding outfield story for the Red Sox took some dramatic turns early in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Making his first start in left field, Jackie Bradley Jr. slugged a three-run homer off left-hander Cliff Lee in the second inning. Three batters later, centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was lifted for a pinch-hitter.

Ellsbury jammed his heel getting back to first on a pickoff play in the first inning. He was examined by a trainer, but stayed in the game and was then thrown out stealing when Dustin Pedroia struck out.

Rather than move Bradley from left to center after one inning, manager John Farrell moved Shane Victorino over from right. Centerfield was Victorino's position for years with the Phillies.

The leadoff batter in the Phillies' second was Ryan Howard, who sent Victorino crashing into the wall on a long wall. Victorino made a nice catch and appeared to be OK.

Bradley hit a sacrifice fly in the third. He had four RBIs in the first three innings.

The extent of Ellsbury's injury was not immediately known.
