The top-seeded Marist women did not have anyone on the all-conference first team.
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference released its men’s and women’s basketball All-MAAC and All-Rookie teams Monday, the biggest surprise being that no Marist women made the all-conference first team.
Marist, which placed four players on the second and third teams, was 18-0 in the league and is the top seed for the MAAC Championship, which kicks off Thursday at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.
The Red Foxes have dominated the conference, winning seven straight championships and nine of 10. They are 53-1 in MAAC games the last three seasons.
The players and rookies of the year will be announced Thursday at the postseason awards banquet at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
MEN’S FIRST TEAM: Loyola and Niagara each placed two players on the All-MAAC first team.
Juan’ya Green, last year’s Rookie of the Year, and Antoine Mason represent Niagara, the top seed in the championship that begins Friday.
Erik Etherly, MVP of last year’s championship and the only repeat first-team choice, and Dylon Cormier of Loyola joined Lamont Jones of Iona and Billy Baron of Canisius.
MEN’S ALL-ROOKIE: Fairfield placed two players on the team in forwards Marcus Gilbert and Amadou Sidibe.
Manhattan also had two in forward Shane Richard and guard ReShawn Stores. Guard T.J. Cline of Niagara rounded out the squad.
WOMEN’S FIRST TEAM: Siena’s Lily Grenci is the lone player to repeat on the All-MAAC first team. She is joined by Ashley Durham of Canisius, Damika Martinez of Iona, Lauren Gatto of Niagara and MyNeshia MacKenzie of Rider.
WOMEN’S ALL-ROOKIE: Loyola’s Diana Logan and Tiffany Padgett head up the All-Rookie team.
Tiahana Mills of Canisius, Kristin Schatzlein of Fairfield, Joy Adams of Iona, Shayna Ericksen of Manhattan, Sydney Coffey of Marist and Mikal Johnson of Rider round it out.
