The Celtics signed D.J. White to a 10-day contract Thursday, but could still use some interior help.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Amundson, waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this month after averaging 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game over 20 games this season, told Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports that Boston, Chicago, New York and Miami are in the mix to sign him. He has career averages of 3.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.
It's likely that the Celtics will have more direction by 11:59 p.m. Friday, the deadline for buyouts to be eligible for the postseason with a new team. Coach Doc Rivers joked Thursday that the Celtics are hoping for a buyout miracle, but he knows those are unlikely (P.J. Brown, stand up and take a bow).
"We were hoping some of the guys who made the All-Star team would get bought out, but none of them will," River said, according to ESPN Boston. It’s been really quiet. The trade (deadline) was quiet -- even though there was a lot of chatter about a lot of people -- and I think the buyout (might be the same). But with buyout, you never know until the last second , when a guy just walks in and says, 'I want out' and the team says, 'Yes.'"
Oden's body has fallen apart more often than a Jenga tower, but he remains a physically tantalizing 7-footer if he can ever get healthy again. According to Shaun Powell of Sports on Earth, the Celtics are one of three teams in the running for him.
Oden wouldn't provide help this season since he doesn't expect to sign until the summer, but, still just 25, he could be worth the minor risk of a small contract. The former No. 1 pick of the Portland Trailblazers, who hasn't played a game since Dec. 5, 2009, met with the Celtics recently.Agent Mike Conley says Greg Oden will not decide on his next team until July.
