The Elms College women’s basketball team’s best season in recent memory is not done yet.
Led by a game-high 21 points from sophomore forward Denisha Parks, the Blazers advanced in the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 72-48 quarterfinal victory over Mitchell College Tuesday at Picknelly Arena in Chicopee.
Sophomore guard Gianna Youngblood sank four 3-pointers for 12 points, and sophomore forward JC Pickett of Chicopee grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Elms (16-10), the tournament’s No. 2 seed, will take on No. 6 Becker (10-16), a 68-51 upset winner over No. 3 Newbury, in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday at Regis College in Newton.
Daniel Webster 68, Bay Path 57: Also in the NECC tournament, visiting Bay Path saw its season come to a close with a 12-14 record with a loss at Nashua, N.H.
Westfield St. 63, Salem St. 52: Sophomore center Gabby Felix poured in a career-high 26 points and pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds to help host Westfield State to a victory in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference tournament at the Woodward Center.
The No. 3-seed Owls (17-9) jumped out to a 14-2 lead and rode that momentum to a trip to No. 2 Worcester State for a semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Endicott 68, Western New England 60: Despite a game-high 25 points from Emily Savino, host Western New England University dropped its Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal at the Alumni Healthful Living Center in Springfield.
The No. 4 Golden Bears (15-11) led 30-24 at halftime but were outscored 44-30 in the final 20 minutes.
Rhode Island 45, UMass 42: At Kingston, R.I., freshman forward Rashida Timbilla posted her sixth career double-double with 14 points – on 7-for-7 shooting – and 11 rebounds.
Freshman guard Jasmine Harris also had 14 points for the Minutewomen (3-22, 1-9 Atlantic-10). Her potential game-tying 3-point attempt rimmed out at the buzzer.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Curry 76, Western New England 54: Damian Alton led visiting Western New England with 26 points in a CCC quarterfinal loss at Milton, ending the season at 9-17.
