Ainge expects that Rondo will be ready for training camp, but that seemingly could be setting an aggressive timetable for the All-Star's recovery.
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is expected to undergo surgery on his torn right ACL within 10 to 14 days, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told the Boston Herald Monday.
Ainge expects that Rondo will be ready for the start of training camp, but that seemingly could be setting an aggressive timetable for the All-Star's recovery. With Rondo's surgery likely two weeks away, training camp would be fewer than eight months from the time of operation. Athletes typically take between 8-12 months to recover from ACL surgery.
Fellow point guards Ricky Rubio and Derrick Rose also suffered recent torn ACLs. Rubio returned in December for the Minnesota Timberwolves nine months after injury, but has struggled to regain his form. Derrick Rose has yet to return after being sidelined nine months for the Chicago Bulls.
