Rondo injured the knee during the waning moments of a loss to the Atlanta Hawks Friday night.
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, the team announced Sunday.Rondo injured the knee during the waning moments of a loss to the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. He was a late scratch Sunday against the Miami Heat, and an MRI revealed the extent of the injury.
Rondo is leading the NBA in assists with 11.1 per game, and was slated to start the All-Star Game. Without him the Celtics, who entered Sunday's meeting with the Heat on a six-game winning streak, have no pure point guard and could be forced into making a move for another ball-handler.
Rondo is also averaging 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His injury could force president of basketball operations Danny Ainge to change his mentality as the trade deadline approaches.
No date has been set for Rondo's surgery.
