Freeman is ineligible for competition due to academics, but he is still eligible to practice, according to a team spokesman.
AMHERST – Seven-foot freshman Isaac "Izzy" Freeman was not in uniform for the University of Massachusetts basketball team's victory over Richmond on Sunday at the Mullins Center.
Freeman is ineligible for games due to academics, but he is still eligible to practice, according to a team spokesman.
The Manassas, Va., native has played sparingly this season, appearing in five games and averaging 1.2 minutes.
The move is likely precautionary, meaning the team is waiting to hear Freeman's official academic status from UMass or the NCAA, not wanting to risk dressing and/or playing him in the event he winds up ineligible.
Freeman had previously voiced concern with being placed on academic probation for the spring semester. Sunday's win over Richmond was the first game for the Minutemen since the semester began Tuesday.
