Three thoughts from courtside at Mullins Center.

Three thoughts from courtside at Mullins Center.

Inside Job
UMass has dominated the paint on the offensive end, scoring 16 of its 34 points there while eschewing the three for higher percentage shots and getting to the line 13 times.

Meanwhile, UMass was 2 for 8 from long range and 9 for 12 from the field otherwise.

The least amount of wide open 3's is the best
Derek Kellogg said earlier this week that as far as defending Richmond was concerned, "the least amount of wide open 3's" was his goal.

So far, so good. The Spiders were 4 for 9 in the first half, but they certainly had to work for the open looks, and made a couple of contested shots as well.

Hold on to the basketball
Chaz Williams' season high in turnovers is six.

In the first half alone, he turned it over five times, and for the second straight game, appears to be out of control too often for UMass' likings.
