This is the first of three meetings between the teams this season. The Bruins travel to Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum only once on Feb. 26 and host the Islanders for the final time on April 11.
Last season Boston took three of four meetings.
Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg told the media following morning skate at TD Garden that he'll be a game-time decision again.
Seidenberg has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury and is still listed as day-to-day. He's skated during practices, but still obviously isn't at 100 percent.
With Seidenberg's status unclear, he alternated with Dougie Hamilton and Aaron Johnson for the team's second defensive pairing.
Zdeno Chara and Johnny Boychuk and Andrew Ference and Adam McQuaid were the other pairings.
Tuukka Rask was the first goalie off the ice.
Rask is 2-0-1 with a 1.95 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.
The Islanders are coming off a 7-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday where they scored five unanswered goals to rally from a 3-1 first period deficit.
Islanders coach Jack Capuano announced that goalie Rick DiPietro will get his first start of the season.
DiPietro was sidelined for most of last season with a groin injury, which required surgery. He appeared in eight games and compiled a 3-2-3 record, 3.73 GAA and .876 save percentage.
