Patriots sign G Mitch Petrus

New England is dealing with injuries across the offensive line.

The New England Patriots added some depth to their offensive line by signing guard Mitch Petrus Tuesday.

Petrus, who worked out for the team earlier this week, was a sixth-round pick of the Giants in 2010 draft and appeared in 17 games before being cut in early November. Both New England’s starting guards, Logan Mankins (ankle) and Dan Connolly (back), suffered injuries in Sunday’s 37-31 win over the Buffalo Bills.

The Patriots created a roster spot Monday by waiving linebacker Jeff Tarpinian. He cleared waivers and was signed to the practice squad. Linebacker Jerrell Harris, signed to the practice squad Nov. 6, was cut to make room for Tarpinian’s return.
