Spikes says that he's feeling better than he ever has in his career.

There’s something about that moment that is addictive to Brandon Spikes.

The New England Patriots linebacker can’t get enough of it. Each taste only leaves him craving more. His appetite is insatiable.

“There’s no better feeling than when you can impose your will on another man and completely stop what he’s trying to get done,” Spikes said.

That’s probably no surprise since Spikes often compares himself to various predators when discussing his game. He’s called himself a shark and, perhaps more to the point, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in the movie “Predator.”

There’s little room for interpretation. Spikes wants to be a force on the field. For the most part, he’s been successful.

The third-year player has recorded 50 tackles, three forced fumbles and one sack through eight games. If Spikes can stay healthy, he should well be on his way to his best season as a professional.

Last season, Spikes was limited to eight games and finished with 47 tackles. He recorded 61 tackles over 12 games as a rookie. This year, though, the 25-year-old says he’s ready to go the distance.

“Honestly, this is the best I’ve ever felt in my life,” Spikes said. “I feel like I’m 18. I can go play this week, or next week. I feel great, man.”

The only problem for him will be getting through this week. Predators need to eat, and there’s nothing on the menu as New England is on a bye week.

“It’s the bye,” he said. “I’m going to enjoy it, but at the same, I’m trying to get the edge.”
