Carpenter appeared in four games for the Patriots.
The New England Patriots released linebacker Bobby Carpenter Tuesday evening.
It marks the second time the 29-year-old has been released by the Patriots this season. Carpenter was also let go following training camp. He then re-signed in early October and appeared in four games, mostly on special teams.
Carpenter was a first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2006, where he played four seasons. He also spent time with Miami (2010) and Detroit (2010-11).
