Tigers manager Jim Leyland already is contemplating the matchups, but he also has enjoyed the downtime.
The Detroit Tigers punched their ticket to the World Series by finishing their ALCS sweep of the New York Yankees last Thursday. But they didn’t know who their opponent would be or where they would play Game 1 until the San Francisco Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 7 of the NLCS on Monday night.
So, the first pitch of Game 1 of the Fall Classic will be Wednesday at 8:07 p.m. ET at AT&T Park.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland already is contemplating the matchups, but he also has enjoyed the downtime.
"To be honest with you, I've enjoyed this little break," Leyland told The Detroit News. "You can get your preparation going, but it's not so stressful."
Not only are the Tigers rested, they will have the advantage of starting ace Justin Verlander in Game 1 of the World Series—a luxury the Giants won’t have after using Matt Cain in Game 7 of the NLCS and Ryan Vogelsong in Game 6.
