Multiple reports have linked Martin to the Boston Celtics, but CSNNE's A. Sherrod Blakely cautions not to start picturing Martin in a green jersey.
Kenyon Martin is one of the more intriguing NBA free agents still available, a power forward with a track record of blocking shots and contributing to winning teams.
Multiple reports have linked Martin to the Boston Celtics, but CSNNE's A. Sherrod Blakely cautions not to start picturing Martin in a green jersey.
"Slim to none," Blakely tweeted Monday while estimating the odds that Martin lands with the Celtics.
The Celtics could use a shot blocker, but they're already well-staffed at the power forward position with Kevin Garnett, Brandon Bass and Jared Sullinger. Martin, 34, had the least productive season of his career last year with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging a career-low 8.6 points per 36 minutes with a rebounding rate, 11.5, that was the third-worst of his 12-year career.
The Celtics could still add another body prior to training camp, which begins Sept. 29. But they're more likely to acquire someone with the ability to play center. Martin, despite being one of the most recognizable names left on the market, doesn't fit Boston's biggest remaining need.
