Holyoke Catholic ushering in third Hall of Fame class

Ten athletes, a coach and the school's first football team will be enshrined Friday.

Holyoke Catholic High School’s Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame will have its third induction at 6 p.m. Friday at the Castle of Knights on Memorial Drive in Chicopee.

Ten athletes will be honored, along with Tom Griffin, a basketball coach of the 1950s; and the 1947 football team, Holyoke Catholic’s first.

There will also be a special award presentation to the Sisters of St. Joseph for community leadership and commitment to the school.

The athletes to be enshrined: Ed Superson (1948), George Counter (1955), Walter Garbacik (1955), Terry Sugrue (1957), James Fallon (1959), Dave Tabin (1973), Joan Golden (1978), Margaret Feyre (1979), Ray Fagnant (1982) and Jennifer Sattler Murphy (1989).

The 1947 football team included Leonard Meehan, Rene Masse, Stanley Swierzewski, William Toomey, Martin Finn, Marc Barthello, John Fenton, Charles Mannix, William Finnerty, John Warren, Charles Demers, Charles Kelly, John O’Rourke, Jackson Clare, James Monahan, Joseph Counter, Frank Geraghty, Robert Cavanaugh, Donnell Hart, John Reilly, Francis Finn, John Delimat, Richard Kane, Francis Patenaude, Edward Smith, Robert Bougie, Richard Bougie, Anthony Creane, Earl McNee, Claude Veillette, John Farrell, Jerome Shea, Peter Urbon, Howard Ford, Thomas Griffin, John Lucey, Daniel Gaughan, Thomas Hoar, Fred Sullivan and Michael Griffin.
