The race for undrafted rookies has begun.
The race has begun for teams to reach agreements with rookie free agents.
Just shortly after the draft concluded, the Patriots were already wrapping up deals with Iowa offensive tackle Markus Zusevics, South Florida offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren, and Iowa tight end Brad Herman.
Here’s what we know about each one:
OL Zusevics (6-foot-5, 303 pounds): Zusevics started all 13 games last season at right tackle and was projected to go in the mid-rounds of the draft until tearing a pectoral muscle while bench pressing at the Scouting Combine. He was expected to undergo surgery sometime during the last month. He’s a huge specimen but his arm length (33 inches) has been a concern for some talent evaluators and is considered below average. Zusevics agent, Jack Bechta, reported his signing.
TE Herman (6-foot-4, 252 pounds): Herman’s measurable paint the picture of a solid athlete – 4.81 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical – but he hasn’t put it to use on the field. He made just eight receptions for 95 yards with two touchdowns as a senior. Christopher Price of WEEI first reported this news.
OL Warren (6-foot-2, 336 pounds): Warren has experience at both left guard and tackle. He’s considered to be a bit of a project. The knock on his game is that he has a slow first step and plays too high, but it is believed he can develop into a solid player with time. ESPN Boston first reported this news.
