In-studio guest Meghan Rothschild to share an inspirational story about her battle with cancer.
So isn't the sport of rugby just a bunch of crazy guys, pig-piling on each other and ripping each other's ears off?
Guess again.
The game, developed in England and dates back to the mid-19th century, has long been an international sport.
And it is also played mere miles from downtown Springfield. And to help with education of the sport, the "School Zone'' will bring in Wilbraham & Monson rugby coach Wally Swanson during today's program at 4:10.
"School Zone,'' with host Russ Held of The Republican, airs every Thursday from 4-5 p.m. on WHLL 1450 AM. The high school sports talk show is the only one of its kind in Western Massachusetts.
WMA's director of marketing Meghan Rothschild will follow Swanson to share her inspiring journey through the challenges of her battle with melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
Diagnosed at age 20, Rothschild has helped spearhead a national campaign to spread awareness and prevention of skin cancer.
The guest lineup also includes Pat O'Rourke, a sophomore at Western New England University who has spent the spring semester as an intern at The Republican.
O'Rourke co-hosts "Sports Talk with D.J. and Patty O'' on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. on WNEK 105.1 FM.
